Simple Snack Of The Day ; Butterscotch Popcorn

Homemade ButterScotch Popcorn


Who does’nt love popcorn? Haha usually we eat popcorn while watching movie in cinema right? Yesterday i watched movie at home  to get rid of boredom so before watching movie i prepared some snacks to enjoy along the story.  Popcorn is a kind of corn kernel that expand while it got heated 

Do you know guys? Popcorn has been invented thousand years ago. Popcorn was known as a food that served during sacrification ceremony for God in Aztec tribe, Mexico in the 16th century. The shape of the dry popcorn kernel that expand into white flower shape symbolize as the snow from God of the water.  

The first flavoured popcorn was created by Cracker jack in USA. He and another imigrant from Germany, William Rueckheim was selling popcorn with a traditional machine. Then later he met a friend who is selling marshmallow in 1893. So then he got idea to make first caramelized popcorn.  Nowadays Cracker jack is one of famous caramelized popcorn brand in USA.

Now i wanna share you my recipe how to make a simple and easy caramelized popcorn.

What we need :

1 cup off popcorn corn kernels
¼ cup of palm oil or margarine
½ cup sugar
1/3 cup condensed milk
½ cup water
100 gr butter

- Add oil or margarine in a large pot or pan then put some corn kernels in pot. Cover it with the lid and cook it with medium heat

- When the corn start popping wait for 30 seconds then shake the pot occasionally until the popping slows down.

- After about 2 minutes and the popping slow down, open the lid and put your popcorn into a container

- Now how we make the caramel, first put sugar in a non sticky pan. Mix the condensed milk with water and stir it. Pour the milk into sugar then cook it with low heat. Remember DONT STIR THIS MIXTURE when you cook the caramel

- Let the water shimmer and create some bubbles on the surface. Wait until the mixture getting golden colour.

- After the colour of sugar changed into golden one, add butter and stir it soon. Make sure you mix it well.

- Pour the caramel mixture on popcorn then stir it throughly. Use spatula and be careful when u pouring n stir the popcorn because the caramel temparature is absolotely hot

- Let it for some minutes and finally your caramelized popcorn is ready to served

Thats how i made my own popcorn so why dont u try it at home??
